Dr. Shawn Willson - Author of “Thin: Catching up to Anorexia”

A healthcare professional from Prairie Village, Kansas, Dr. Shawn Willson spent most of her career working in forensic psychiatry before authoring “Thin: Catching up to Anorexia.” In the book, Dr. Shawn Willson narrates the journey that she and her daughter took in dealing with the condition.

In “Thin,” Dr. Willson gives an account of watching her daughter struggle with anorexia for six years beginning at 13. In her narration, the author discusses her daughter’s physical deterioration, weight loss, and damaged digestive system, which led to her daughter nearly dying. Throughout the book, she shares her missteps and successes in helping her child recover. She also provides readers with resources for getting assistance or helping others struggling with the condition. The book can be found on Amazon and other digital publishers. Today, her expertise extends to helping others recover from anorexia by assisting them with addressing the mental and emotional trauma that has contributed to the eating disorder.

Outside of writing this book, Dr. Willson also contributes her time to the Johnson County Democratic Women's Life Church. She also launched an anti-bullying group and is an advocate for LGBTQ rights. Her interests are fly fishing, playing the piano, mountain biking, and playing pickleball.
